France has said India is a “top priority” for President Emmanuel Macron as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to attend the G7 summit in Évian‑les‑Bains from 15 to 17 June. French diplomatic sources said Modi’s presence is crucial as the bloc discusses global challenges, with Paris identifying 12 key deliverables it hopes to achieve during his visit.
France considers India a trusted partner and highlighted the ease of communication between the two governments, noting that India’s role is vital in global problem‑solving. Although not a G7 member, India has been invited to participate in all sessions of the summit, a privilege extended to only a few non‑member nations.
India’s inclusion is also significant as it chairs Brics this year, giving it added influence in shaping discussions on global economic imbalances. An outreach session on “Tackling the Global Imbalances” will bring together invited countries including India, Kenya, South Korea and Brazil.
The summit will open with a dinner for G7 leaders and EU representatives, followed by sessions focused on geopolitical crises, economic cooperation, artificial intelligence and development partnerships. The first formal session will address the Russia‑Ukraine war, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attending. Another major discussion will centre on the ongoing crisis in West Asia, with participation from Egypt, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
