Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 25 continuous years as head of government, a political milestone that has drawn congratulations from leaders across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Pacific. Messages from several world leaders highlighted Modi’s long tenure in public office, his governance record, and India’s growing role on the global stage.
Modi first assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and later became Prime Minister of India in 2014. With 25 uninterrupted years as head of government, he joins a select group of democratic leaders who have served for such a prolonged period in executive office.
Among those offering congratulations was Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who described leadership as the exercise of wisdom, compassion and courage through selfless service. Tobgay praised Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, saying it reflected the aspirations of millions of Indians seeking a strong, prosperous and developed nation. In a public message, he referred to the Indian leader as “an avatar of our times,” underscoring the close ties between India and Bhutan.
Leaders from countries including Nigeria, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Serbia, Botswana, Belgium, the Philippines, and Dominica also sent messages recognising Modi’s contributions to governance and international engagement. Many noted India’s growing influence in global affairs, its economic transformation, and its expanding development partnerships with countries around the world.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu highlighted Modi’s 25 years of uninterrupted public service and commended his leadership at both the state and national levels. Other leaders pointed to India’s progress in infrastructure, digital transformation, economic development, and international diplomacy during Modi’s tenure.
The milestone comes at a time when India is playing a more prominent role in global forums such as the G20, BRICS, Quad, and the United Nations. Supporters view the anniversary as a reflection of political continuity and long-term governance, while acknowledging the scale of India’s transformation over the past two decades.
The messages collectively underscored the international recognition Modi has earned during a quarter-century in public office and highlighted India’s increasingly prominent place in global affairs.
