Fresh Violence Kills 4 in Manipur; Protesters Take Bodies to CM’s Residence, Demand Action

Fresh violence in Manipur has claimed at least four lives in two separate incidents, triggering angry protests in Imphal and bringing normal activities in parts of the city to a near standstill. Protesters carried the bodies of two victims to the high-security residence of Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh, demanding immediate action over the killings.

The incidents took place amid continuing tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities, whose relations have remained strained since ethnic violence broke out in the state in May 2023. In the first incident, three villagers were allegedly shot dead by suspected tribal militants near Khamenlok in Imphal East district while collecting firewood in the nearby hills. Three other people were injured in the attack, according to a News18 report.
