Goat-Stealing Trio Nabbed and Thrashed by Public at Banikya Choumuhani; Contraband Recovered

AGARTALA: Public wrath turned violent at Banikya Choumuhani market on Sunday when a vigilant mob caught three notorious thieves red-handed. The trio was allegedly part of an organized inter-district syndicate specialized in stealing goats from various rural areas and selling them off across the state.

According to local sources, the suspects were spotted acting suspiciously in the market area while trying to dispose of livestock. Recognizing them from previous local thefts, traders and shoppers surrounded the suspects. The confrontation quickly escalated into a severe thrashing, as enraged citizens handed out “mob justice” to the accused before alerting law enforcement.

A team of local police rushed to the scene, rescued the battered suspects from the agitated crowd, and took them into custody. During a preliminary search of the detained individuals, police recovered a significant quantity of illicit intoxicants and narcotic substances from their possession.

Initial police interrogation revealed that the accused are habitual drug addicts who resorted to frequent livestock theft to fund their daily substance abuse. A case has been registered, and the police are investigating their broader network.
