Air India Frankfurt-Delhi flight diverted to Jaipur after hijack alert; security agencies launch probe

An Air India international flight from Frankfurt to Delhi made an emergency diversion to Jaipur on Wednesday morning after a hijack alert triggered an immediate security response from aviation and law-enforcement authorities.

The flight, operating as AI-2030, was en route from Germany to India when Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control reportedly received an emergency signal from the aircraft at around 9:00 am. According to preliminary information, the flight crew activated Squawk 7500, the internationally recognised transponder code used to indicate a hijacking or unlawful interference situation aboard an aircraft.

The alert prompted Indian security agencies to move into action. Air traffic controllers coordinated with authorities to divert the aircraft away from its scheduled destination and direct it toward Jaipur International Airport, where emergency and security teams had already been mobilised.

The aircraft landed safely in Jaipur at approximately 9:35 am. Shortly after landing, it was escorted to a designated isolation bay at around 9:45 am, allowing security personnel to conduct detailed inspections away from regular airport traffic and passenger operations.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether the alert was linked to a genuine hijacking threat, a security concern, or a technical issue. Aviation authorities are following standard international protocols, which require every hijack signal to be treated as a serious threat until proven otherwise.

Security teams, including airport security personnel and other agencies, began inspecting the aircraft, interviewing crew members, and reviewing operational details after the landing. Passengers were reported safe, and no injuries were immediately reported.

The incident briefly disrupted airport operations and attracted significant attention due to the sensitivity of a Squawk 7500 declaration, one of the most serious emergency alerts available to a flight crew. Aviation experts note that such alerts are rare and automatically trigger heightened security procedures.

Air India has not yet released a detailed statement on the circumstances that led to the emergency signal. Authorities are expected to examine cockpit communications, flight records, and crew reports before determining the exact cause of the alert.

Further details are awaited as investigations continue.
