Manipur Bleeds Again: Three Dead in Fresh Armed Clashes

IMPHAL: Three people were killed in fresh clashes between armed groups in Manipur’s Kamjong and Ukhrul districts, officials said on Saturday. The deaths add to concerns over the security situation in the state’s hill districts.

The identities of the deceased, the exact locations and timing of the incidents, and the groups involved were not immediately available at the time of filing.

The two districts have seen repeated violence this year. In April, three people were killed in two separate firing incidents between armed groups of rival tribal communities in Ukhrul, according to PTI. The firing followed an ambush on a civilian convoy on April 18 in which two Tangkhul Naga civilians were killed. Manipur has also been hit by ethnic violence since May 2023.
