AGARTALA: The Tripura Cabinet has approved a 3 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state government employees and pensioners, taking the total rate to 44 per cent.
The latest revision follows the 5 per cent hike announced earlier this year, which lifted the rate to 41 per cent from April 1, 2026. That hike benefited 1,02,563 employees and 81,019 pensioners and added Rs 500 crore a year to the state’s expenditure.
State government employees and pensioners have long demanded that their DA and DR be brought on par with those paid to Central government employees. When the April hike was announced, the Central rate stood at 60 per cent, 19 points above Tripura’s. The state government has said its periodic increases are meant to narrow this gap.
The decision is expected to bring relief to the lakhs of families who depend on government salaries and pensions in the state, particularly as the festive season approaches.
