SONAMURA: Police seized 67 kg 110 grams of dried ganja and detained the driver of the vehicle carrying it, following a tip-off along the Dhanpur–Induria main road under Sonamura police station, officials said.
Acting on secret information, police intercepted a high-end white Bolero on the road and recovered the contraband, packed in 16 packets wrapped in black tubing. The driver was detained on the spot, and the seizure was carried out at the site in accordance with due legal procedure.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act against the driver, described as a drug peddler, and his associates. He was subsequently produced before the Sonamura court, where police sought his remand. After examining the case diary, the court granted four days of police custody.
A special team at Sonamura police station is continuing interrogation, which has reportedly yielded information about the wider network operating in the area. This is being jointly analysed with state and central intelligence agencies, and further action under the law is expected once sufficient evidence is gathered against others allegedly involved.
