UDAIPUR: Two young men died and a third was injured after two motorcycles collided head-on on the Agartala–Sabroom National Highway near the Housing Board area of Udaipur town on Friday night, police said.
The accident occurred around 9:30 pm, hours after the town had been immersed in Vishwakarma Puja celebrations through the day, according to local sources. One motorcycle (registration TR01AX9775), driven by Rohan Debnath, 26, of Gokulpur, with Bishal Pal, 24, riding pillion, was reportedly heading home from the Rajarbagh bus stand area. The second motorcycle (TR03E8872), driven by Rafiq Mia, 42, of Sukanta Palli, was allegedly travelling from Chhanbon towards Udaipur. The two collided on the highway near the Housing Board, throwing all three riders onto the road, locals said.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the fire services, who reportedly evacuated Rafiq Mia and Rohan Debnath to Gomati District Hospital, while Bishal Pal was also taken to hospital with the help of locals. Doctors declared Rafiq Mia dead on arrival; he is believed to have died at the scene. Rohan Debnath’s condition was reported critical, and he was referred to GB Hospital, but reportedly died on the way. Bishal Pal was treated and discharged, hospital sources said.
Both bodies have been kept for post-mortem examination and are expected to be handed over to their families on Saturday, according to hospital sources. A forensic team from Gomati district and police from Radhakishorepur police station reached the spot Friday night and have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
