AGARTALA: A consensus workshop on the National Mental Health Survey of Tripura (NMHS-2) was held at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital premises on Saturday, aimed at assessing the current state of mental health in the state and strengthening public awareness on the issue.
Held at LH-2 of AGMC, the workshop brought together experts to discuss and exchange views on various aspects of the survey. It was jointly organised by the Department of Community Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS). Dr Subrata Baidya of the Department of Community Medicine is associated with the initiative.
The survey seeks to gather crucial data on mental health issues among the people of Tripura, patterns of service utilisation, and the need for mental health services in the state. Participants also discussed ways to more effectively establish mental health as a key component of public health.
Officials associated with the initiative said workshops of this nature at premier medical institutions are expected to strengthen coordination among doctors, researchers and health workers, while also supporting future planning of mental health services in Tripura.
