AGARTALA: Candidates who passed the 2024 Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) held a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Wednesday, demanding immediate appointment and raising concerns over what they described as prolonged delays in the recruitment process.
According to the candidates, of nearly 40,000 aspirants who appeared for the 2024 TET, only about 1,800 have qualified — a figure they said makes the continued delay in appointments harder to justify. They alleged that despite the small pass count, the state government has yet to complete the recruitment process.
The candidates also raised concerns about teacher shortages in the state’s education system, alleging that barring a few urban schools, many institutions in rural and remote areas lack adequate teaching staff — a gap they said is adversely affecting students’ education.
They further expressed dissatisfaction with the response from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s office, claiming that repeated requests for intervention made to former Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath had not yielded the expected response from the current chief minister.
The candidates announced that if their demands are not met soon, they will stage a demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s residence on September 24. Their core demands are swift appointment of all eligible 2024 TET passouts and effective measures to address the teacher shortage in state schools.
They urged the government to consider their demands seriously and expedite the recruitment process.
