AGARTALA: A young woman and her male accomplice, allegedly intoxicated, were caught red-handed while attempting to steal a mobile phone from outside the maternity ward at GB Pant (GBP) Hospital, sources said.
According to hospital sources, the duo was spotted by private security personnel deployed at the facility as they allegedly attempted to snatch the phone from outside the maternity ward. Security staff reportedly intervened and apprehended the pair on the spot before they could flee.
The two were subsequently handed over to police at the GB Town police outpost for further action, sources said. Details regarding the identities of the accused and the exact circumstances of the alleged theft attempt are yet to be officially confirmed by police.
The incident triggered considerable alarm among patients and their family members present at the hospital at the time, with several reportedly gathering at the scene amid the commotion.
Security lapses at GBP Hospital, particularly around sensitive areas such as the maternity ward, have drawn concern from visitors in the past. Police are yet to release an official statement on the case.
