SABROOM: A family in Soniarkhil Nanditila, under Sabroom subdivision in South Tripura, has alleged a sustained campaign of harassment and intimidation, naming a local resident, Bishnu Shil, as the accused.
The family of Shambhu Dutta claims it came under suspicion after BSF personnel seized allegedly smuggled goods during a search in the area. Following this, they allege repeated night-time attacks on their home, including intruders cutting open the tin roofing, vandalism of the family’s shrine, and acid being poured into their drinking water.
The complaint further alleges the accused demanded Rs 17 lakh from Dutta’s wife, threatened her life, and attempted to molest her in the early hours of the morning. Residents allege the harassment has continued over an extended period, alongside separate accusations of interference at the local anganwadi centre and involvement in cross-border smuggling.
Police from Srinagar outpost, along with local panchayat representatives, visited the site after the complaint was raised. Residents have called for a thorough police investigation and stronger security measures in the border village.
