Bishalgarh: A woman has alleged that she is being pressured by Bishalgarh police to pay a hefty sum of money, in connection with a dispute involving a police officer’s brother, and has approached the media seeking the Chief Minister’s intervention.
According to her account, the case stems from an altercation and alleged assault around a month and a half ago over fare charges involving a tomtom (auto-rickshaw) driver and the brother of a police officer at Bishalgarh, near Gate No. 1 road. She alleged that since Sunday, her family had come under pressure from the police station to pay money — first ₹60,000, then reportedly raised to ₹1.5 lakh.
She further alleged that when she visited the police station on Sunday afternoon, she was told to pay ₹2 lakh, failing which she would be implicated in unrelated cases registered at the station.
Distressed by the alleged threats, the woman went to the media on Sunday, appealing to the Chief Minister to look into the matter.
The allegations remain unverified, and police have not yet issued an official response. Efforts are on to obtain their version of events.
