DHARMANAGAR: Outrage has erupted in South Jubarajnagar Ward No. 1, under Jubarajnagar Gram Panchayat in Dharmanagar Police Station’s jurisdiction, after guardians alleged that expired medicines were distributed to children at the local anganwadi centre.
According to guardians, medicines were handed out to children on September 5 after they were called in by centre staff. It was only later, on checking the expiry dates printed on the bottles, that guardians discovered every medicine distributed had already expired.
Those present during the distribution reportedly included MPW Manish Nath of Mangalkhali Sub-Centre, local ASHA worker Koyrun Nesa, and anganwadi worker Mampi Debnath. After the discovery, a guardian alerted others through the centre’s official WhatsApp group, warning that the medicines should not be given to children under any circumstances. No response was reportedly received from the MPW or anganwadi authorities.
Local residents have expressed strong anger over the lapse, calling it a serious breach of responsibility concerning children’s health, and have demanded immediate departmental action against the health and anganwadi staff involved in the incident.
