Agartala: Normal life came to a standstill at Chandrapur ISBT on Friday as bus and jeep services remained completely suspended following the 72-hour bandh called by surrendered militant organisations across the state.
Commuters were left stranded at the ISBT since morning, with no vehicles plying on the affected routes. Passengers, many of whom had travel plans disrupted, expressed frustration over the sudden halt in services, with several stranded commuters voicing concern over the lack of alternative transport arrangements.
Transport operators at the ISBT said they had no option but to suspend operations in view of the bandh call, citing safety concerns amid the blockade being enforced at various points across the state, including the national highway. Vendors and small businesses dependent on the bus terminus footfall also reported a sharp drop in daily earnings due to the disruption.
The bandh, called by surrendered militant groups demanding fulfilment of long-pending promises made by the government, has affected road and rail traffic in multiple parts of the state. Authorities are yet to comment on when normalcy is expected to be restored, with commuters hoping for an early resolution to the ongoing impasse.
