Udaipur : Udaipur subdivision administration launched a fresh drive on Thursday aimed at ensuring public health safety and building a drug-free society, targeting illegal sale of tobacco products and banned plastic carry bags.
On the directive of the Subdivisional Magistrate, a joint team of the subdivisional and municipal administrations raided various business establishments, including grocery shops, across Udaipur town on Thursday afternoon. Tobacco products being illegally sold, along with banned plastic carry bags, were seized and confiscated during the operation.
Subdivisional Magistrate Tridib Sarkar said strict action under the law would be taken against establishments selling tobacco products without a valid licence. Legal action is also being initiated against traders who have not renewed their trade licence with the Udaipur Municipal Council.
He added that such drives would continue regularly in the town going forward, with particular focus on tobacco sale within 100 metres of schools, which would invite strict action.
The day’s drive resulted in the seizure of tobacco products worth approximately Rs 35,000, along with several plastic carry bags, officials said.
