Agartala: Tripura Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia on Monday alleged that Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman had directed abusive and offensive language at him during the heated confrontation in the House, calling the conduct unacceptable.
Speaking to reporters after the House was adjourned for lunch, Jamatia said the Congress MLA had made extremely offensive remarks against the Chair during the Assembly proceedings, describing his behaviour as unparliamentary and expressing sharp disappointment over the incident. As microphones were switched off amid the commotion, the exact words used were not clearly audible in the House.
The exchange occurred after Roy Barman repeatedly attempted to raise the issue of the alleged suicide note linked to former DGP Anurag Dhankar’s death, despite the Speaker’s earlier ruling that the matter could not be reopened after the Chief Minister’s suo motu statement. Citing grave disorder, disregard for the Chair, and use of slang, Jamatia invoked Rule 330 to suspend Roy Barman for the remainder of the day’s sitting, warning that stronger action could follow if such conduct persisted.
Roy Barman, along with Congress and CPI(M) legislators, later staged a walkout in protest, terming the suspension “illegal.”
