Agartala: Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman was expelled from the Tripura Legislative Assembly for the day on Monday after a heated exchange with Speaker Rampada Jamatia over the alleged suicide note linked to the death of former DGP Anurag Dhankar.
The confrontation erupted during Zero Hour when Roy Barman insisted on raising the issue after the Speaker had earlier ruled it closed, citing Chief Minister Manik Saha’s prior statement on the matter. Citing unparliamentary language and disruption of proceedings, the Speaker invoked Rule 330 and ordered Roy Barman’s expulsion for the remainder of the sitting. Congress and CPI(M) MLAs then entered the well of the House in protest.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Roy Barman launched a sharp attack on the Chief Minister, alleging he was “directly and indirectly responsible” for the circumstances surrounding Dhankar’s death and questioning whether Saha should continue in office. He claimed his information on the note came from senior police officers.
At a separate press conference, Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha called the expulsion “unjust and politically motivated” and demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation, saying the party would intensify its agitation over the issue.
