AGARTALA: The formation of a Pay Commission for the state’s government employees and pensioners took centre stage in the Assembly on Friday, with the Finance Minister and MLA Sudip Roy Barman participating in the discussion.
Outlining the government’s initiatives on the matter, the Finance Minister informed the House of steps being taken towards constituting the Pay Commission to address long-pending demands of state employees and pensioners.
However, Sudip Roy Barman raised sharp objections during the debate, alleging that the state’s government employees have repeatedly been “cheated” over the years. The MLA said the grievances of employees remained unaddressed and called for concrete, time-bound action rather than assurances.
The exchange added to the ongoing discourse in the Assembly session over employee welfare and pay-related demands, with opposition members pressing the government for clarity on the Pay Commission’s timeline and terms of reference.
The session is expected to continue with further discussions on related financial and administrative matters.
