Health Worker Dies on Duty, Leaves Behind Two Young Children

Melaghar: A Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW) at Urmai Primary Health Centre, Prasenjit Das, died suddenly while on duty on Tuesday, plunging his family and the local community into grief.

Das, a resident of Melaghar Battali, had been unwell since the previous day but reported for work regardless. He collapsed abruptly during his shift and was rushed to Melaghar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Colleagues and residents remembered Das as a dedicated and unassuming worker who never shirked responsibility. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he continued serving despite the risks, and during severe flooding he reportedly crossed by boat or waded through floodwaters to reach the health centre and complete his duties.

Das had risen from a period of financial hardship in his family, and after securing the MPW post, he worked to restore stability for his household.

He is survived by his wife, an 18-month-old infant, and a nine-year-old child. Residents in the area expressed shock at his sudden death, with many questioning how the tragedy occurred.
