Russian President Vladimir Putin met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Kremlin on Monday, with the two leaders discussing the strengthening of India-Russia ties and cooperation across key sectors.
Welcoming Jaishankar to Moscow, Putin said his visit reflected the strength of India-Russia relations, which had developed over several decades. “I am very glad to see you, Mr Minister. Your visit today highlights the level of relations that have developed between Russia and India for decades,” Putin said.
Jaishankar conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to Putin and handed over a personal message from the Indian leader during the meeting, underscoring the warmth in ties between the two countries at the highest levels.
Putin noted that the two countries continued to cooperate across a wide range of areas, including government, parliamentary and economic channels. He also pointed to growing bilateral trade in 2026, saying cooperation had expanded across “almost all areas” of the relationship.
Jaishankar Underlines Growth in Economic Cooperation
Jaishankar said the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission had held its meeting and that the discussions had produced a positive assessment of bilateral cooperation. He highlighted progress in trade, energy, fertilisers and nuclear cooperation as areas where the two countries had made notable gains.
The meeting comes amid a broader push by both governments to deepen economic engagement, with energy and fertiliser supplies remaining central pillars of the relationship. Nuclear cooperation was also flagged as an area of continuing growth, building on decades of collaboration between the two nations.
The Kremlin meeting reflects the continuity of India-Russia relations even as global geopolitical alignments shift, with both sides signalling intent to further institutionalise cooperation through mechanisms like the Intergovernmental Commission in the months ahead.
