BISHALGARH: A young man is undergoing treatment at GB Hospital after allegedly being brutally assaulted near Rabindranath Tagore College under Bishalgarh police station, even as his family accuses local police of inaction and attempting to broker an unofficial settlement instead of registering a case.
The victim, identified as Bikash Biswas, was allegedly beaten and left bleeding on Friday night by Nitai Das and his son Sourav Das. He remains under treatment for his injuries.
Following the assault, a complaint was reportedly lodged at Bishalgarh police station. However, the complainant’s family alleges that police have taken no action against the accused so far. Instead, they claim police personnel contacted them over the phone proposing a “mimangsha” (settlement) between the two parties rather than pursuing legal proceedings.
Adding to the allegations, the family claims police did not even provide a receipt copy acknowledging the complaint — a standard procedure meant to ensure accountability.
The incident has raised questions over police conduct in the case, with residents demanding that strict action be taken against the accused and that the matter be investigated impartially without any attempt at informal settlement.
