Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for an immediate end to the ongoing West Asia war, arguing that Tehran should seek a settlement while it still holds what he described as a position of “strength and dignity.” His remarks, reported by ISNA, signal a notable shift in tone as Iran faces intensifying military, economic and diplomatic pressure.
Speaking at a meeting with doctors, Pezeshkian said Iran must avoid prolonging the conflict to the point where its leverage weakens. He claimed the world recognises Iran’s “victory”, accusing the United States of targeting schools, hospitals and infrastructure, actions he said violate international norms. His comments suggest Tehran is open to negotiations — but only from a stance it believes remains strategically advantageous.
Pezeshkian’s call for de‑escalation comes as Iran simultaneously steps up its criticism of US sanctions. The Foreign Ministry recently accused Washington of “economic terrorism” and “crimes against humanity,” arguing that sanctions undermine the basic rights of Iranian citizens. State media said those responsible for imposing the measures should face trial and punishment.
The US, however, is preparing to intensify its pressure campaign. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Washington aims to “collapse” Iran’s financial capacity, urging allies — including China — to support efforts to isolate Tehran economically. The US argues that sustained economic pressure could prevent a wider regional escalation.
China has rejected sanctions as a solution, insisting that economic coercion will not resolve political disputes. Beijing maintains that dialogue, not pressure, is the path to stability.
Pezeshkian’s remarks highlight Iran’s attempt to balance military posture, economic strain, and diplomatic messaging as the conflict enters its sixth month.
