MLA Bhagaban Das: 100% Subsidy on Hiked Portion of Power Bills

Agartala: MLA Bhagaban Das on Friday claimed that the state BJP government has decided to provide a 100 percent subsidy on the additional hiked portion of electricity bills, a move he said would significantly ease the financial burden on consumers. He was addressing a press conference at the BJP Pradesh Office in Krishnanagar.

Das said the government has also decided to fully waive outstanding electricity bills accumulated over the last three months, a step expected to benefit a large number of ordinary consumers. He added that the present government has been working sincerely to resolve billing-related problems that, he alleged, originated during the CPM regime.

Presenting a comparative picture, the MLA claimed electricity prices rose by nearly 60 percent under the CPM government, against an approximate 40 percent hike during the BJP’s tenure. He specifically alleged that tariffs saw significant increases under former Power Minister Manik Dey.

Das said electricity services are directly tied to people’s daily lives, and the government was therefore prioritising consumer-friendly measures on power billing. He expressed confidence that implementation of these decisions would bring tangible relief to electricity consumers across the state.
