AGARTALA — Ahead of the 2026 Sharadiya Durga Puja, Ward No. 39 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation held a press conference detailing this year’s celebration plans and award categories, with Mayor Deepak Majumder and Corporator Alok Roy in attendance.
Officials announced awards across several categories, including Best Idol, Best Pandal, Best Puja on a Modest Budget, Best Environmental Awareness Campaign, Best Discipline, and Best Souvenir, along with special recognitions for exceptional initiatives. This year’s programme will also highlight the relevance of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in post-independence Indian literature and culture, an effort organizers said is meant to connect younger generations with literary and cultural heritage.
Mayor Majumder said Durga Puja is central to Tripura’s social and cultural fabric, and celebrations must balance festivity with environmental responsibility and discipline. Corporator Roy urged puja committees to prioritize transparency and eco-friendly practices, noting that creative, low-budget celebrations would be specially evaluated this year.
The main event will be held on November 1 at 6 PM at Arundhutinagar Class XII School, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in attendance, where winners will be felicitated and discussions held on culture and social harmony.
