Congress Leader’s Family Faces Extortion Allegations in Indranagar, Residents Submit Deputation

AGARTALA: Residents of Indranagar submitted a deputation to the Officer-in-Charge of NCC Police Station on Tuesday, alleging harassment and extortion by individuals linked to local Congress leadership, according to sources.

The complaint reportedly names Congress Block President Sanjib Dey, whose residence is alleged to host late-night gatherings involving intoxicants, and his brother Sujit Dey, who is accused of regularly extorting money from contractors and other individuals in the area. Residents claim the activities have created a prolonged atmosphere of fear in the locality.

According to the deputation, residents had earlier raised the matter with police at the GB outpost, but allege no meaningful action followed. Left with no alternative, area residents said they approached NCC Police Station directly, demanding immediate intervention.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the allegations. The matter remains under review following the deputation.
