Agartala: West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been appointed National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, prompting a wave of enthusiasm among party leadership and workers in Tripura. The decision was taken by national president Nitin Nabin, with the appointments taking effect immediately.
Party workers from various parts of the city gathered in the evening at Om Apartment, Road No. 7, Dhaleshwar, bursting firecrackers and celebrating with joy over Deb’s elevation.
Congratulating Deb on his new responsibility, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said his extensive administrative experience and organisational expertise, particularly his grassroots-level work, would help strengthen the BJP’s organisational structure across the country. Deb has been credited with playing an important role in building and expanding the BJP’s organisational base in Tripura.
Deb served as a co-incharge during the 2026 Bengal election, in which the BJP came to power in the state for the first time, and his elevation is being viewed within political circles as recognition of his role in that campaign.
Dr. Saha also congratulated all newly appointed national office-bearers, saying the new team would further empower party workers and strengthen the organisation under the leadership of PM Modi and Nitin Nabin.
