Agartala: TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has cautioned that the party’s alliance with the BJP could come under review if the Centre fails to take concrete steps towards implementing the Tiprasa Accord, signalling continued unease within the ruling coalition over unmet indigenous demands.
Speaking in Agartala, Debbarma said party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, popularly known as Bubagra, had raised the accord’s implementation as a central issue and reaffirmed his own support for the demand. “If steps are taken to implement the Tiprasa Accord, we are with the BJP. Otherwise, I am reflecting on what the future holds for our alliance with the BJP,” he said.
The remarks follow inconclusive talks between senior BJP leaders and Bubagra in New Delhi on August 11, where no immediate agreement was reached on a possible electoral tie-up for the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections. Bubagra had then said any alliance would hinge on tangible progress on the tripartite agreement and a constitutional solution for Tripura’s indigenous people, stressing the need for internal consultation before a final call.
Party leaders, workers and supporters are expected to weigh in before TIPRA Motha decides its electoral course.
