Amtali, Aug 17: The body of an unidentified young man was recovered from Sekerkote Malabati Tea Garden on Monday morning, triggering concern in the locality, police said.
According to local sources, residents spotted the body hanging from a tree in a wooded stretch beside the road near the railway bridge and alerted Amtali police station. A police team reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue at Hapania Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Locals said the deceased did not appear to be a resident of the area and remains unidentified so far. Some residents raised suspicion, based on the position of the body, that he may have been killed elsewhere and the body later left at the site, though this has not been confirmed by police.
Officials said the exact cause of death — whether suicide or murder — would be established only after the post-mortem report is received. Amtali police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
