Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove escaped unharmed on Friday after his convoy came under attack in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung district, though six people, including three police personnel, were injured in the assault.
Langove was travelling from Kalat to Quetta when gunmen targeted his convoy in the Khad Kocha area. According to a Dawn report citing a senior police official, the provincial home minister remained safe throughout the incident. The official said six people sustained bullet injuries in the attack, three of whom were members of the police force protecting the convoy.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate those responsible, with personnel combing the surrounding area in Khad Kocha for the attackers.
Six of the injured were rushed to Nawab Raisani Memorial Hospital, where Dr Sana confirmed their admission following the attack. Two of the injured are reported to be in serious condition, according to hospital officials.
The attack adds to a growing pattern of violence targeting security personnel and government officials in Balochistan, a province that has long grappled with insurgent activity and attacks on state functionaries. Mastung district, where Friday’s assault occurred, has previously been the site of major security incidents, including deadly bombings targeting political gatherings.
Authorities have not yet named any suspects or claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations remain ongoing as security forces continue their search operation in the area. The incident is likely to renew scrutiny of security arrangements for provincial officials travelling through volatile districts in Balochistan, a region that continues to see periodic attacks despite a heavy security presence.
