SABROOM: Residents have raised allegations of substandard construction and irregularities against Nag Construction, the agency contracted to build an 1,800-metre CC road at Sabroom Railway Station, along the bypass road near Sabroom Maitri Setu up to the FCI godown.
Locals allege the contractor is using insufficient sand and excess soil in the roadbed, and pouring concrete at reduced thickness of 100–120–150 cm against the prescribed 200 cm, raising concerns the road could deteriorate quickly. Residents also allege the site is not being watered as required and that the Railways-appointed supervising engineer, identified as Yashwan Gupta, has rarely visited the site — a claim the contractor’s site manager reportedly did not dispute when asked.
Additionally, allegations have emerged that a minor was engaged in manual labour at the site, which the site manager reportedly acknowledged when questioned.
Residents further allege the contractor has occupied a railway office room at the site for an extended period and claim the supervising engineer has been influenced through payments — allegations that remain unverified and are attributed to local complainants.
