AGARTALA: BJP minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday extended the party’s moral support to the ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand, accusing the Congress-JMM coalition government of pursuing a “double standard” in handling the protests.
Addressing a press conference at Kushabhau Bhavan, Chowdhury said BJP stood nationally with Jharkhand’s students, whose demands for corruption-free administration and transparent recruitment were “entirely democratic.” He alleged that while Delhi’s student protesters were granted recognition in the past, Jharkhand’s students were being denied the same, calling it evidence of the ruling coalition’s inconsistency.
The minister also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging he had remained silent on the Ranchi protests despite being vocal in Delhi during the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. Chowdhury claimed Congress was attempting to politically appropriate the movement while ignoring the state government’s alleged conduct, including unverified claims of police action against protesters and reported misbehaviour with women demonstrators.
Chowdhury urged the Jharkhand government to accept the students’ demands “immediately” and called on the media to report on such movements without bias.
BJP has formally extended moral support to the protest, urging the Congress-JMM coalition to act “in good faith” and resolve the students’ concerns without delay.
