Agartala: Violence erupted in the Nagerjala area after an agitation program targeting Ward No. 33 Councillor Abhijit Mallik took a chaotic turn. According to eyewitnesses and local reports, a group of unruly youths, allegedly led by Councillor Mallik, launched a sudden assault on Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) workers stationed at the Nagerjala motor stand.
The confrontation followed a demonstration organized against the councillor earlier in the day. In retaliation, the mob swarmed the area, targeting BMS members with blunt objects. The brutal attack left three to four workers severely injured and bleeding.
Security forces and local police rushed to the spot to control the situation and disperse the crowd. The injured workers were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The incident has triggered massive outrage among local trade unions and residents, leading to heightened security in and around Nagerjala. Representatives from the BMS have strongly condemned the violence, demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and accountability from the councillor. Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation to probe the cause of the clash and maintain law and order.
