MGNREGA Dispute Sparks Clashes in Amarpur; Tipra Motha Locks Panchayat Office

AMARPUR: Violent political friction erupted at Tularampara under Vhomrachhara ADC Village on Tuesday, after a dispute over MGNREGA rural employment projects led to a physical assault on a local political worker.

According to sources, a group of suspected BJP supporters allegedly attacked Tipra Motha worker Shanti Bikash Chakma over work allocation discrepancies. In retaliation, infuriated Tipra Motha activists marched to the Vhomrachhara Panchayat office at around 12:00 PM, locked its main gates, and staged a massive demonstration.

The protestors alleged that the Panchayat Secretary and Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) have abandoned administrative neutrality, running the office under the direct dictation of local BJP leaders Kartik Chakma, Babudhan Chakma, and Parandhan Chakma. They claimed this political nexus routinely shuts down the panchayat arbitrarily, depriving common citizens of vital public services.

As political tensions reached a boiling point, a heavy police contingent led by the Officer-in-Charge of Nutanbazar Police Station rushed to the spot. Authorities managed to pacify the protestors and unlocked the premises after promising a fair inquiry. While Tipra Motha demands immediate arrests, local BJP leadership has not yet issued an official response.
