DHARMANAGAR: CPI(M) workers staged a blockade on the alternative national highway in the Anandabazar area under Yuvarajnagar Assembly constituency here today, as part of a protest programme organised by the party.
Yuvarajnagar MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath was present at the demonstration, lending his support to the agitation. Also participating were several leaders of the CPI(M) district committee.
Senior party functionaries, including CPI(M) state committee member Amitabha Dutta and Dharmanagar sub-divisional committee secretary Ratan Roy, joined the protest along with other local leaders.
The blockade reportedly caused disruption to vehicular movement along the stretch for a period of time, though details of the specific grievances behind the protest were not immediately available.
Security personnel were said to be deployed at the site to monitor the situation and ensure the protest remained peaceful.
Party leaders reiterated their commitment to continue raising public issues through such demonstrations, with further such programmes expected in the coming days.
