KHOWAI: A high-level delegation from the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Khowai Sub-Divisional Committee on Tuesday submitted a formal deputation to the local Food Department, pressing for an immediate resolution to a 3-point charter of demands centered on public welfare and food security.
The demonstration and subsequent submission were spearheaded by prominent regional leaders, including AIKS Khowai District Secretary Manoj Das, Sub-Divisional Secretary Kanan Datta, and President Situ Ranjan Shil, alongside scores of local farmers and organizational activists.
According to sources within the peasants’ front, the demands primarily focus on strengthening the Public Distribution System (PDS) in rural pockets, ensuring the uninterrupted supply of high-quality essential commodities at fair price shops, and streamlining procurement processes to benefit local farmers.
Addressing reporters after submitting the memorandum, AIKS leaders emphasized that escalating market prices have severely impacted marginalized families. They warned that if the Food Department fails to take prompt, tangible action to address these public grievances, the organization will be forced to launch a larger, state-wide democratic agitation. Food department officials assured the delegation that the charter would be reviewed with due priority.
