SONAMURA: Young students staged a road blockade on the Sonamura-Taksapara road on Wednesday, protesting an acute shortage of teachers at Jolaibari School in Nalchar Assembly Constituency, according to local sources.
The students, reportedly accompanied by guardians and local residents, blocked the road demanding immediate appointment of teachers at the school, alleging that the ongoing shortage has severely disrupted classes and affected their education.
The blockade led to disruption of vehicular movement on the stretch, causing inconvenience to commuters, sources said.
Local residents said repeated complaints to education authorities regarding the teacher shortage had gone unaddressed, prompting the protest.
Police reportedly reached the spot following the blockade.
