AGARTALA: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state government would continue conducting the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) regularly, including every year, while teacher recruitment would proceed in a phased manner based on existing vacancies and the state’s financial position.
Responding to questions on pending legal cases related to teacher recruitment, Saha clarified that qualifying TET does not amount to appointment, since the examination is fundamentally a test of eligibility rather than a job guarantee. He noted that legal proceedings on the matter are currently underway, and that the government had already conducted recruitment drives in the past.
The Chief Minister also dismissed concerns over the frequency of TET, asserting that the exam is held regularly, including annually, and that the process would continue without creating confusion among candidates.
He said his office consults with officials and initiates recruitment action soon after each TET is conducted, absorbing eligible candidates into the system in a continuing cycle, calibrated against available vacancies and resources.
The remarks come amid ongoing scrutiny over teacher recruitment timelines and pending litigation in the state.
