Agartala: Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma ordered an impartial inquiry into alleged irregularities in the quality and supply of food at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls’ Hostel on Jagannath Bari Road in Agartala, after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in food supply and the quality of meals provided to students.
The minister conducted a surprise inspection of the hostel following complaints raised by students, interacting with residents and hearing their grievances before seeking details from officials concerned. He directed authorities to carry out a transparent, comprehensive inquiry and act swiftly on its findings, warning that any negligence or irregularity concerning the rights, safety and welfare of students would not be tolerated, and that strict action would follow against those responsible if allegations are proven.
Debbarma also visited the Bodhjung Street Boys’ Hostel and the Women’s College ST Girls’ Hostel in Agartala, reviewing infrastructure, living conditions and facilities. He directed officials to identify areas needing immediate attention, assuring necessary improvements for a safer, cleaner residential environment for tribal students.
The minister reiterated that student welfare remains a top government priority, calling proper investment in education, safety and living conditions vital for building a skilled and confident society.
