Dispute Erupts Over Durga Puja Ground in Agartala’s Aralia; Residents Demand Probe

AGARTALA: A dispute over an unclaimed plot of land in the Ajit Palli area of Aralia Jugendranagar has sparked fresh tension, with residents demanding an impartial administrative investigation into its ownership.

According to local residents, Durga Puja has been collectively organised on the open plot for the past 25-30 years, and no valid ownership of the land has reportedly come to light in nearly five decades.

Residents have alleged that one Jibon Dey, alias Dipu Dey, prepared forged documents for the land and has been attempting to sell it to prospective buyers. The accused could not be reached for comment.

Locals further claimed that an attempt is being made to politicise the issue by levelling false allegations against a social worker, insisting the matter concerns only community interest.

Residents have submitted written applications to the SDM, the Tehsil office and the local councillor, seeking a full inquiry into the land’s rightful ownership and, in the absence of a legitimate claimant, its continued use for Durga Puja. They have also appealed to state political leadership to ensure a fair probe.
