BISHALGARH: A routine animal vaccination drive took an adventurous turn on Tuesday when a medical team from the Animal Resources Development Department successfully rescued a massive python from a residential village under the Bishalgarh Block.
The incident occurred during a scheduled Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination camp conducted by the department’s Mobile Veterinary Clinic at Ward No. 1 of Chandannagar Gram Panchayat. Panic gripped the locality when villagers suddenly spotted the large python slithering near the campsite.
Demonstrating swift presence of mind, the mobile veterinary team—comprising the attending doctor, assistant, and the ambulance driver—stepped in immediately. With the coordinated assistance of local residents, the team safely captured the reptile without causing it any physical harm, ensuring public safety in the process.
The rescued python was carefully secured and transported to the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, where it was safely handed over to the sanctuary’s senior veterinarian, Dr. Keshab Debnath. Forest officials commended the veterinary team and the villagers for their quick, humane response, noting that the python would be released deep into its natural habitat after a routine health checkup.
