No Roof Over Their Heads: Daily-Wage Family Denied Government Housing, Barjala Panchayat

CHARILAM:A daily-wage labourer family in Ward No. 3 of Barjala Gram Panchayat under Charilam Block has been left without a home despite qualifying for government housing assistance, raising questions over the implementation of welfare schemes in the area.

Maheja Khatun, a resident of the Bandher Par area, and her husband Abdul Sattar Mia have not received a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), even though their ration card falls under the Antyodaya category — meant for the poorest of the poor.

Khatun alleged that beyond housing, the family has received no benefits or facilities from the panchayat in recent years, leaving them without adequate support despite their eligibility.

The family’s plight has drawn attention to gaps in the delivery of welfare schemes at the panchayat level, with residents questioning why eligible beneficiaries continue to be left out.

Local panchayat officials have not yet responded to the allegations. Efforts are being made to seek clarification on the status of the family’s housing application.
