AGARTALA: A catastrophe is waiting to happen on the Agartala-Simna road, where a vital concrete bridge near Brahmakunda Shib Bari has turned into a death trap. Massive soil erosion paired with the collapse of the bridge’s approach wall has triggered widespread panic among daily commuters and local residents.
The structural damage is so severe that the bridge stands dangerously compromised. Commuters have expressed grave concerns that a horrific accident could occur at any moment, potentially claiming lives if an overloaded vehicle passes through. Despite the visible risk, heavy traffic continues to ply the route, leaving hundreds of lives hanging by a thread daily.
Locals have hit out at the authorities, alleging total negligence. “The Public Works Department (PWD) seems to be in a deep winter slumber,” an angry commuter stated. “They are waiting for a major disaster to happen before they wake up.”
With monsoon rains threatening to wash away what remains of the foundation, residents are demanding immediate emergency repairs and traffic diversion. If the PWD fails to act swiftly, this crucial transit link could snap entirely, cutting off connectivity and leading to an avoidable tragedy.
