Public Nabs Gas Cylinder Thief at Udaipur Shopping Complex

UDAIPUR: An accused in a gas cylinder theft case from Lake City Shopping Complex in Udaipur was apprehended by local residents, in an incident that has drawn attention to public vigilance stepping in where police response fell short.

The detained person has been identified as Prasenjit Dey, a resident of the Bagma area. Following the theft, residents reviewed CCTV footage from the shopping complex to identify the accused, after which locals tactfully tracked down and apprehended Dey themselves.

During preliminary questioning, Dey reportedly confessed to stealing two gas cylinders from the complex and admitted to selling them to a young man identified as Jasim Miya.

Locals alleged that despite the theft being reported, police had failed to trace or apprehend the accused, and credited the successful capture entirely to the alertness and quick thinking of residents in the area.

The accused has since been handed over to police for further legal action, with investigators expected to question him further regarding the whereabouts of the stolen cylinders and the identity of the buyer.

The incident has once again raised questions over the effectiveness of local police response to theft complaints in the Udaipur area.
