CHARILAM: Three daily-wage labourer families in the Bandher Par area of Bishramganj Barjala Gram Panchayat remain without government compensation nearly three months after a severe hailstorm damaged their homes, even as other affected families in the village have reportedly received relief.
The families of Maheja Begum, Momota Begum and Manowara Begum say neither the panchayat pradhan nor its members have inquired about their condition since the disaster. They allege they have been singled out and left out of the compensation list because of their political affiliation with the opposition, though they have not raised this complaint formally with authorities.
During the hailstorm, hailstones fell inside Maheja Begum’s house, severely injuring her and her grandson, Alamin Hossain. Both had to be rushed to Bishramganj Hospital for treatment. Despite the severity of the injuries and property damage, the family says it has received no compensation or support from the panchayat to date.
The affected families have appealed to the administration to look into their case and ensure they receive the same relief extended to other hailstorm-affected households in the village, stressing that continued neglect is pushing them further into hardship.
