NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference on Sunday, describing Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as a major step towards overhauling the country’s education system.
Gandhi congratulated students across the country, saying he was proud of young people who had taken to the streets to defend democracy, the Constitution, and their future.
He said two demands remained outstanding — that the Prime Minister apologise out of respect for students and the nation’s future, and that action be taken against those responsible for violence against students.
Gandhi further said that standing firm, constitutionally, for the dignity of farmers, workers, the poor, and other sections of society allegedly oppressed under the current government reflected genuine courage. He asserted that the time had come to remove the government, and urged citizens not to be afraid.
The press conference comes amid continuing student unrest and the recent resignation of Pradhan, with the Congress leader positioning the developments as part of a broader political battle against the ruling dispensation.
