BISHALGARH: The anganwadi worker at Raghunathpur Anganwadi Centre No. 2 here has come under a barrage of allegations from local villagers, who accuse her of dereliction of duty and misbehaviour towards students and guardians.
According to residents, the centre’s worker, identified as Helena Begum, has allegedly been closing the centre and sending children home well ahead of the official schedule for a prolonged period. She was reportedly seen leaving early on Saturday, prompting confrontation from angry villagers.
Villagers further alleged that she frequently remains occupied with her mobile phone instead of attending to students, and behaves inappropriately with children and parents. A more serious allegation raised was that pregnant women and students at the centre allegedly receive smaller quantities of eggs, rice, and lentils compared to other anganwadi centres, purportedly due to rising egg prices.
When questioned by the media on Saturday, Begum said she was unwell and had therefore left early.
Villagers questioned why the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) has not intervened despite the recurring complaints. No official response from the CDPO’s office has been received so far.
