Skeletal Remains Surface in Ambassa Stream, Sparks Probe

AMBASSA: A human skeleton was recovered from Chandrai Chhara stream in the New Palli area here on Sunday, triggering panic among local residents.

The skeleton, found lying partly submerged in water and partly on land, was spotted by labourers working on a plot belonging to local resident Khagesh Debnath, near the stream. Debnath was immediately informed and subsequently alerted Ambassa police station.

Ambassa police, led by Officer-in-Charge Nandan Das, rushed to the spot upon receiving the information. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (in-charge), Kishore Unchoi, along with DCM Puja Riang, a forensic team, and a doctor from Dhalai District Hospital, also reached the site. The forensic team examined the skeleton in the DCM’s presence, following which the doctor conducted an on-the-spot post-mortem.

Speaking to reporters, SDPO (in-charge) Kishore Unchoi said the skeleton, believed to belong to a man, appeared to be approximately a month old, as no flesh remained on the body — possibly washed away by the stream’s current. He said the identity and origin of the remains would be established through further investigation, with the forensic report expected to provide clarity.

Police said a probe has been launched.
