Police Forcibly Break Up Road Blockade in Udaipur; Man Who Lost Unborn Child to Bad Road Among Those Detained

Police forcibly dispersed a protest and detained demonstrators demanding road repairs in the Dhupatali Bazar area of Udaipur subdivision, in an incident that has drawn sharp criticism from locals over the handling of a long-standing grievance.

Among those detained is a young man whose unborn child died in the womb after he met with an accident on the same dilapidated road — a personal tragedy that had become emblematic of residents’ demand for urgent repair work.

The protest began the previous day, with locals staging a road blockade at Dhupatali Bazar demanding the repair of the stretch from Tulamura to Barapathari in Udaipur subdivision. Residents allege that the road has remained in a state of disrepair for a prolonged period, leading to frequent accidents and mounting frustration in the area.

The forcible removal of protesters, rather than addressing their demand, has further angered locals, who say the administration has repeatedly failed to act despite the road’s dangerous condition.
